LDWA members have been busy placing out nesting tubes on our marsh. When used properly, these tubes can boost fledgling success considerably.
The tubes provide safe artificial structures and help keep nesting ducks safe from predation. Mallard nests are often destroyed before the eggs have had chance to hatch due to problems like trampling from livestock, predation or disturbance from dog walkers. The nest tubes offer security and protection from the elements and give the mallard a helping hand and offer better chances of successfully rearing their young.
